SRC Food Evening & Interact Fashion Show

Oakhill School’s 2019/20 Interact Club, headed up by Sophia Trollip and Richard Cross, delivered a very successful and entertaining Fashion Show on Friday, 23 August. Following the theme of the hit movie Mamma Mia, the show certainly proved to be even more of a hit with the local audience of Knysna parents and students! The school stage was beautifully transformed into a Greek island setting, with turquoise seas and deep blue skies providing the backdrop for an entertaining evening of feel-good fun. MCs for the night, Sebastian Cook and Blake Govender, generated many laughs while Oakhill Grade 10, 11 and 12 pupils strutted their stuff to the sounds of Abba, modelling fashion from our local Knysna stores – De Jagers, Diana Loon, Markhams, Old Khaki, Surf Culture, Tiger Lily and Two on Toast.

Preceding the fashion show, the new SRC Committee provided a sensory adventure of tastes and aromas in the Oakhill College Quad. This usual academic space was transformed into a colourful open-air food market, where friends and family could come together to enjoy quality time with one another while feasting on the diverse culinary offerings provided by Grade 8 and 9 pupils. While the food stalls ensured that taste buds were being tantalised, the karaoke corner provided the background entertainment, ranging from mesmerizing melodies to hilarious harmonies!

Both events were once again a great success, and served not only as fundraisers for various SRC and Interact projects, but also as a glue that united the College grades, with all pupils working towards a common goal while having great fun in the process. Oakhill’s Interact committee looks forward to contributing funds raised to the various community projects it supports. Says Louise Fourie, teacher in charge of Interact at Oakhill, “The fashion show is an important annual fundraiser for Interact to support ongoing community projects by the Oakhill Interactors such as the refurbishment of the local Hlalani Creche garden, visits to Epilepsy, Vermont Centre, Dorothy Broster and many other community service initiatives within Knysna.”
