Several Oakhill pupils took part in the ATKV-Afrikaans Olimpiades for 2019. These are aimed at pupils from Grade 7 to Grade 12, and test technical language skills in Afrikaans. Three Oakhill College students did exceptionally well in the both the Afrikaans Senior and Junior Olimpiades – In the senior category Shanté Strydom (Grade 12) was placed joint 3rd in the Western Cape and joint 9th nationally, while Hanro Hay (also Grade 12) was placed joint 5th in the Western Cape and joint 12th nationally. In the junior section, Francois Hay (Grade 9) was placed joint 3rd in the Western Cape and joint 10th nationally.
The ATKV was founded in 1930 and aims to encourage the preservation and growth of the Afrikaans language and culture, with their olympiads written annually by schools across the country.
