SA Mathematics Challenge

All of the Grade 4 -7 Oakhill Prep pupils participated in the first round of the SA Mathematics Challenge, of which 60 pupils qualified for the Second Round, which is a great achievement. The following pupils received certificates acknowledging their success:

  • Gold: Adam Law
  • Silver: Angus Anderson, Thomas Jackson, Emily Tunstall, Haitham Hawkins-Badat, Jessica Turpin, and Joshua Harvey.
  • Bronze: Luke Gilmour, Daniel Hardick, Emma Holton, Evan Tait, Aidan Holton, Neveah Koch, Jake Messenger, and Gabriele Carrara.

We are extremely proud of Emily Tunstall, Haitham Hawkins-Badat, Adam Law, and Joshua Harvey who were invited to participate in the Final Round in Cape Town. Emily Tunstall and Haitham Hawkins-Badat went to Cape Town at very short notice and took part in a morning Mathematics workshop as well as writing the final round.

The SA Mathematics Challenge consists of 20 very challenging questions and pupils have an hour to complete the exam. The questions are aimed at conceptual knowledge, the application of knowledge in new situations, problem-solving, reasoning, communication, and general mathematical thinking. It is important for pupils to become empowered, independent, creative, and critical thinkers. Each question is a challenge and therefore a question solved is an achievement in itself.

Well done to these excellent mathematicians!
