Recycling for the Sweethearts Foundation

We must never forget it is our duty to protect our environment

Nelson Mandela

As an EcoSchool, Oakhill undertakes various reducing, reusing and recycling initiatives to continuously help protect and sustain our natural environment.

As part of our ongoing eco awareness our students recycle plastic bottle tops and bread tags throughout the year to donate to the Sweethearts Foundation – which in exchange provides wheelchairs for those in need. These Tops & Tags donations maximise the Sweethearts Foundation’s impact to allow children to receive customised wheelchairs and offer hope in the face of harsh circumstances, making a difference and being a vehicle for change. They have already donated 294 wheelchairs from 43.3 tons of bottle tops and 5.9 tons of bread tags!

To support this ongoing meaningful initiative you can drop off your own Top & Tag recycling at Oakhill’s Hungry Oaks tuckshop or directly at Metelerkamps.
