Old Oaks to visit with UCT Choir

Oakhill is very pleased to host UCT Choir for the Knysna leg of their Garden Route Tour in two weeks’ time – Thursday, 3 September at 18h30 in the Hall. We especially look forward to welcoming two of our Old Oaks who are in the choir – Talia Lifson (2012) and Kate Gardy (2011)!

The UCT Choir is the most diverse musical group at the University of Cape Town. It is a fully student-run ensemble that welcomes students from every faculty and discipline, as well as alumni and external members. The fifty-person choir is an active participant in the musical life of Cape Town. Under the direction of Kurt Haupt, singers and audiences are exposed to a rich variety of choral music from classical to contemporary genres, drawing strongly from our own South African musical heritage.

During this year’s tour of the Garden Route, the UCT Choir will be celebrating their 30-year anniversary, with the release of their “Winter Warmers with the UCT Choir” CD. As a student-run and self-funded society, this tour is a chance for the choir to raise funds for an opportunity of a lifetime that has recently presented itself: the choir has been invited to sing at the Lincoln Center (New York, USA) in 2016 to represent their city and university abroad!
