Oakhill’s Independent Schools’ Co-ed Hockey Festival 2012… a major success!

Oakhill held their second and even more successful Independent Schools Co-ed Hockey Festival. With the teams increasing from 12 in 2011 to 17 this year, the platform was set to be a major success.

With almost all the games being played on astro and a significant number of them under floodlights the festival atmosphere took on a whole new dimension. With the combination of boys and girls hockey and the focus on a festival atmosphere to form relationships and network with like-minded schools it was a very social experience for all who attended. The evening functions included an opening cocktail function, a traditional South African braai and culminated in a sheep-on-the-spit for everyone on the final evening.

All the umpires had coaching opportunities from national umpire coach Peter Hollely, and the festival was smoothly run by peter Vieyra who only has 30 plus years of provincial experience from Hockey IPT’s.

Oakhill’s Girls and Boys played an extremely entertaining brand of hockey and the improvement in Oakhill Hockey was put on display for all to see.

Oakhill would like to thank all the schools who attended and we look forward to our Birthday celebration in 2013!
