On Saturday 4 August 2018 the final of the Eden ladies hockey league took place at the Oakhill Sports Campus. Our home club, Old Oaks Knysna Hockey Club took on Glenwood Invitational (Glenwood House from George) who were appearing in their first final since joining the senior league 3 years ago.
It was expected to be a close game but Old Oaks Knysna Ladies team, took an early advantage when Oakhill pupil Chargé de Wet scored a field goal in the third minute. Old Oaks Knysna had more chances in the first half, winning a good few penalty corners but were unable to add to their score line. Glenwood refused to back down and manage a field goal equalizer in the 29th minute from Ceara Grindley. The second half remained goalless until the 59th minute when Old Oaks Knysna scored a fantastic field goal by another Oakhill pupil Jessica van Strijp, to take a 2-1 lead.
This is how the game ended and Old Oaks Knysna Ladies retain the Eden Senior League trophy. Glenwood Invitation put up an incredible fight and can walk away with pride, however, experience counted in the favour of the home team. A huge thank you goes out to Old Oaks hockey sponsors Knysna Yamaha and all those who came to support.
