Oakhill Hockey treks to Beaufort West to play Sentraal

All six Oakhill Hockey teams (excluding the Matrics) made the trek to the Great Karoo, where they experienced boarding school life and the harsh conditions of the early morning frost of Beaufort West. Our hosts were fantastic and once again Annalize Stemment and her husband welcomed us with open arms and made us all feel so welcome.

With no less than nine 1st XI Boys missing from the team, our youngsters got a taste of the big time. Some u14 stars who played 1st team and “popped their shoelaces” included the dynamic Morgan Watson and Jake Turner and new boy Hockey sensation Chris Watson. His equal in the girls’ team, Renate Graupe, is proving to be hugely exciting and has a great future ahead of her.

Even with so many players being rested, Oakhill dominated, winning 5 and losing 1. This was warming in proving that Oakhill Hockey has depth and is performing well.

The results were as follows:

1st XI Girls: Won 2 – 1; M.o.M: Morgan Watson
u16 Girls: Lost 0 – 1; M.o.M: Luche Janse van Veuren
u14 Girls: Won 2 – 0; M.o.M: Melissa du Plessis
1st XI Boys: Won 2 – 0; M.o.M: Whole team
u16 Boys: Won 1 – 0; M.o.M: Greg Cuthbert
u14 Boys: Won 6 – 1; M.o.M: Jake Turner

A big thank you to all our coaching staff who gave up their weekend, and especially our three drivers, Ettiene, Claemont and Elvin, who assisted with First Aid and got us there and home safely.
