Macbeth in Motion

Macbeth in Motion

Our Grade 9 students are engaging in a dramatic arts and technology collaboration by creating a stop motion production of Macbeth that tells the story of the famous play through motionless images. The project was developed as a way for students to learn about Macbeth, the Globe Theatre and its history, but also to develop their digital storytelling skills. The Globe Theatre is an open-air theatre that was built in 1599 in London, England. It was constructed by Shakespeare’s acting company, The Lord Chamberlain’s Men, to perform their plays outside during the summertime when there were no other theatres available to them due to poor weather conditions. The original structure held 3000 people but only lasted until 1613 when it burned down. In 1996, The New Globe Theatre was built on its original site in London and still performs plays today! Students are creating their own version of the theatre and Macbeth using stop motion animation. Their final production is due in three weeks and we are excited to see their physical interpretations of the theatre and their motionless scene Macbeth productions!
