Kids Lit Quiz 2016

Kids Lit Quiz 2016

IMG_1049 (Copy)Local schools were exposed to world class mastery at the annual Kids’ Lit Quiz hosted by Oakhill School on 10th of February. We were fortunate again to have New Zealander, Wayne Mills, the founder of the quiz, as an electrifying Quiz Master.

Joining Oakhill were teams from Montessori, Riverwood, Greenwood Bay, Glenwood House and Holy Cross. As the eleven teams of 4 children battled it out the excitement mounted- there was much at stake: the winners go through to Johannesburg next week to the national finals; and those winners proceed on to New Zealand in August with all-expenses paid after flights!

Wayne is a wealth of knowledge and teachers and parents scribble down notes of recommended children’s books as he barks out, ’Another one to read before Easter!’ He himself, reads every book on which he sets a question, including all genres from classics to contemporary. He travels around the world, quizzing school children and spreading excitement and the love of literature everywhere he goes.

We are happy to announce that Holy Cross from George took first and second place for the second year running and Oakhill came a proud third for the fourth year in a row. This is an event that takes place every year in February and all English schools in this area should take advantage of every year, as we are very privileged to be included as the smallest area amongst all the big cities of South Africa.
