Inspiration by Cricketing Legend Barry Richard

Barry Richards has teamed up with Oakhill to raise the funds for a Cricket Bursary which will afford the opportunity to a Cricketer from a disadvantaged background to be schooled at Oakhill for 5 years! A very successful talent identification process was held at the Knysna Sports School on Wednesday 19th October. Thank you to Iain Coetzee and Jan van Wagenen for their support and use of their facilities. All cricketers who attended received a cap and a T-shirt, and there is some amazing talent in our local community. Prizes were handed out to the fastest and most accurate bowlers and the best power hitters, together with the most impressive fielders.

The Lads and Dads Oakhill Cricket Evening with Barry Richards that followed the talent identification, was an absolute treat. Here is a man that has the second highest Test average of all time, has scored 28 358 first-class runs at an average of 54.74 and highest score of 356, with 80 centuries. The format was a Question and Answer session and Barry shared some of his cricketing stories and opinions on the game. However, what was so special was the way in which he shared these special memories with an audience that was so captivated that all who attended will remember that evening for years to come.

Thank you Barry, for all you are doing and what you have done for the game of Cricket. You are a true Cricketing Legend!
