FASHION AND FOOD FESTIVITIES AT OAKHILL

Back at it again. Oakhill’s annual Food Evening and Fashion Show left everyone astonished, where the true Oakhillian spirit was embraced and shared with all the friends and family that came out to support. From the food to the fashion, the students demonstrated and unlocked a distinct side to “The Joy of Learning”.

Cuisine across continents

A festive spirit was in the air with each continent making its feature in Oakhill School’s quad. The SRC Food Evening was underway. The Grade 8’s started us off in Italy for some mouth-watering pasta. The Grade 9’s then not only indulged us in a selection of curries but also traditional Indian dancing. Flying all the way to America the Grade 10’s embodied America’s traditional style of big burgers with an array of Burgers and Hotdogs. The Grade 11’s transported us to Mexico with a “build your own Nacho bar” and finally, the Matrics made sure there were sweet treats to compliment all the delicious dishes from around the world.

Fashion Show across the Eras

The journey didn’t stop there, from a tour around the world to a rip in time, where the fashion show strutted us through the eras. Taking us all the way back to the 1940s to start the show. Enjoying classics from Tina Turner, Whitney Houston, and Michael Jackson and then heading into the early 2000s with the Spice Girls, Rihanna, and Lady Gaga and ending the night off with today’s hits from Beyonce, Dua Lipa, and Jack Harlow.

The models each embraced their era bringing the runway to life, with both their amazing strides and stunning outfits. And we can’t forget our amazing hosts Taryn Jansen, Matthew du Plessis, and Wandu Kondlo, who kept the audience at the edge of their seats.

The Matric boys wowed the audience with their incredible dance moves once again, but this year the girls decided to throw their hats into the ring and showcase their moves too. The girls transformed into surfers and bikers from the iconic Teen Beach movie, pulling out all the stops with the song “Falling for Ya”. But we can’t overlook our Matric boys who shined on stage with their performance to “It’s Raining Men” with their colourful umbrellas and stunner moves radiating through the room. The Matrics left the audience in awe, prompting thundering applause.

All and all the Oakhillian spirit was exhibited entirely as the teachers, students, and parents banded together to make this night of fundraising for their citizenship projects, one to remember. A special thank you to the Interact Committee supported by teachers, Ms Baisley, Ms Rughiemer, and Mrs Groves for making the Fashion show a major success. And most importantly, enormous thanks to our local clothing stores Crush, Diana Loon, De Jagers, Salt, Surf Culture, Tiger Lily and Two on Toast for making the superb outfits a possibility.
