Creating Opportunities at Careers Day

Creating Opportunities at Careers Day

Opportunities don’t happen. You create them.

Chris Grosner

Oakhill’s 7th annual Careers Day last week, provided an outstanding opportunity for students to explore various interests and prospective careers available to them in the future. The core message from the keynote speaker – Founder and Director of Tetrad IT – Vusi Mthethwa who kicked off the day, was to encourage the students to “create their opportunities!”

Following this inspiring introduction and in keeping with Oakhill’s culture of curiosity and creativity, College students were exposed to over 50 representatives from different careers and tertiary institutions. They were fortunate to have a plethora of choice of guest speaker sessions to attend over the course of the morning ranging in careers from: an Architect, Biokeneticist, Beauty Therapist, Business Analyst, Crypto Currency Trader, Drone Specialist, Executive Chef, Fashion Designer, Financial and Investment Broker, Geologist, Pharmacist, Plastic Surgeon, Psychologist and Hypnotherapist, Professional Golfer, Scientific Ecologist, Scuba Instructor, Sound Engineer, Surrogate Lawyer, Travel Agent and Tourism Management, Wedding Planner and even Explosive Detention Dog Handlers – to name but a few!

Thank you to all the professionals and specialist guests that passionately shared their own careers, knowledge and expertise to our Oakhill students and visiting students from other local schools. We are also ever thankful to the parent organising committee that arranged this outstanding day for students explore these future opportunities.

What an inspirational day for all involved!
