College Celebration of Excellence 2014

The Celebration of Excellence was held on Saturday 18 October, when the diverse talents and achievements of our College students were commemorated. The morning commenced with speeches by Headmaster Shane Kidwell and Chairman of the Board, Peter Wallington (see downloads below). Grade awards followed, interspersed with speeches and performances by Matric learners. JJ Strydom gave a heart-rendering dramatic solo, whilst Luke Mincione, Ruben Graupe and Joshua van der Merwe enchanted the audience with their vocal trio rendition of “Stars” from “Les Miserables” by Claude-Michel Schönberg. Chris Marrow delivered the Sports Report, and Nicole Bayes followed with the Cultural Report. 2014 SRC President Fern Wolf summarised the SRC’s service for the year, and Olivia Gardy reported on Academics. The last musical items before the Prestigious Awards were Carmen Mičić’s piano solo: “Allegretto” from ‘Three Fantastic Dances‘ by Dmitri Shostakovich; Danielle Laure-Smith’s vocal solo: “Se tu m’ami, se sospiri” (If thou lov’st me) by Giovanni Pergolesi; and the Oakhill Vocal Ensemble’s ‘If ye love me’ (Thomas Tallis) & ‘Rain’ (Joseph Shabalala).
