Chukka festival fever begins

An overwhelming sense of anticipation and excitement is building as water polo players from schools across South Africa prepare to visit Knysna and take part in the prestigious 10th annual Oakhill Waterfront Chukka Festivals starting this weekend.

Launched in 2011, Oakhill Waterfront Chukka Festival is well-known as the unique open-water water polo festival hosted in the Knysna estuary. This action-packed festival is once again set to attract schools from all over South Africa. There are 30 teams participating in the U13 Festival this weekend alone from the following schools: U13 (3 -6 February) – Collegiate, DSG, Fish Hoek Primary School, Glenwood House, Grey Junior School, Grey College Primary, Hudson Park Primary School, Kingswood Junior, Merrifield Preparatory, Paarl Boys, St Andrew’s, St David’s Marist Inanda, St George’s Preparatory, St John’s Preparatory, Reddam House, Stirling Primary School, Sun Valley, Woodridge Preparatory School, and The Ridge School.

The U19 Festival will follow next weekend on 10-13 February and the U15 Festival at the end of the month 23-27 February 2022. It is going to be a month filled with Chukka festival fever and fun!

It is in the spirit of a festival that we have established a tradition of healthy competition where players get the opportunity to hone and test their skills against opponents in a friendly, fun, yet competitive manner.

Having both College and Prep offerings the festival continues to have a wide appeal and attract hundreds of visitors to Knysna. The continued support from Knysna Waterfront and local businesses is formidable and together we can give festival participants and spectators a truly magnificent ‘Knysna’ experience.

These festivals have become an integral part of Oakhill School, not only to grow the game of water polo but also to expose our beautiful town and everything it has to offer to the festival visitors. Follow details on our Oakhill website and social media for the programme, photographs and videos to keep up with the action throughout the weekends!
