Chalk Circle a great success

Oakhill College pupils wowed audiences recently at the College Drama Production, “Chalk Circle”, which took place on 25 and 26 April. This play was based on and inspired by Brecht’s “The Caucasian Chalk Circle“. Brecht’s Theatre typically does not call for perfection, it calls for awareness and change, it calls for people to stop being an audience and rather become members of a society that will bring about change. Sophisticated and intelligent, this play certainly did encourage the audience members to think, while still appealing to the younger audience with the clever use of humour. Added to this was excellent acting and thoughtful costumes and set, all combining to create a wonderful and entertaining evening.

As a whole, the Performing Arts is an integral and vital part of the holistic education offered at Oakhill. Through the study and development of movement and voice, students acquire the ability to express themselves physically and vocally with confidence. An impressed parent affirmed this when commenting: “I was unbelievably impressed with your production. You chose the perfect play – sophisticated and intelligent, while still being able to appeal to a younger audience. The acting was excellent, and the use of costumes and set … a classy, thoughtful, entertaining evening. I believe drama is one of the cornerstones of a well-functioning society and plays such an important role in the development of confident, intelligent young people. Drama requires leadership, involvement, and the guidance of experience and talent … Thank you for such a fantastic production.”
