An Oakhill parent recently kindly penned a thoughtful and fitting tribute to the Oakhill Transport Team that I would like to share with you. The tribute is included below:
Guardians of Our Children’s Journeys
In the heart of Knysna, where Oakhill School nurtures young minds, there exists a team whose dedication often goes unnoticed, but definitely not unappreciated by me … the incredible transport team. Today, as I waited for my daughter
Maya in the tuckshop, a spirited Grade 6 learner, to embark on her bus journey to Cape Town with her netball teammates,
I had the privilege of an impromptu conversation with the Transport Manager.
What I discovered today left me deeply moved.
Behind every trip, every safe arrival, and every joyful return home is a team that works tirelessly … planning, checking,
and ensuring that every journey is as secure as it is smooth. Their meticulous attention to detail is nothing short of extraordinary. From roadworthiness to route planning, from weather considerations to driver readiness, every element is
carefully thought through.
But beyond their precision lies something even greater … their heart. This incredible team does not simply drive; they
care. They hold the safety of our children as their highest priority, treating each child as if they were their own. They know
them by name, they share in their excitement, and they create a space where our children can feel safe, seen, and valued.
As a parent, entrusting my daughter Maya into their care is an act of faith. And time and again, they honour that trust
with unwavering dedication. They are more than transporters … They are caretakers, protectors, and quiet yet essential
figures in our children’s school journeys.
To the Oakhill transport team … Thank you. Thank you for the early mornings, the long drives, the patience, and
the love you pour into your work. Thank you for ensuring that every trip is not just a journey but a safe and welcoming experience.
You are the unseen heroes of our school community, and I am grateful beyond words.
May your roads be smooth, your travels blessed, and may you always know how much you are valued.
