Two special Oakhill Moms recently attended the African Masters Athletics Championships (18/19 May 2012) held at Pilditch Stadium in Pretoria, South Africa.
Marlett Watson (Mom of Christopher Watson in Grade 8 and Florence Watson in Grade 5) achieved the following:
Gold medal in Heptathlon (100m hurdles, long jump, high jump, javelin, 800m, 200m and shot-put)
Gold medal in Long Jump
Silver Medal in High Jump
Bronze Medal in Javelin Throw
Marlett was also awarded her National Colours at a gala event on Saturday evening 19th May 2012. To achieve this she had to meet the national standard in two different Meetings.
Retha van Niekerk (Mom of Burger in Grade 11 and Rikhardt in Grade 000) achieved the following:
Bronze medal in Weight Pentathlon (Hammer throw, Shot-put, Discus, Javelin and Weight Throw)
Both Moms also achieved the International Standard.
