Oakhill began hosting the first regional Kids’ Lit Quiz in 2013. This year was the biggest event yet, with fourteen teams from 8 schools in our region.
We were delighted to see our beloved, famous and charismatic Quizmaster Wayne Mills back from New Zealand for the first time since the pandemic. We have missed his roars of encouragement: ‘Read it before Easter!’ as the audience scribbles down his book recommendations of new publications.
A favourite is when he gives spot prizes to the audience or competitors. Sometimes he begins to read from a book and the first to identify it wins a prize. At the quiz on Tuesday we witnessed a boy identifying the book after just a few words were read!
It is thrilling to see how the children who participate have a chance to shine as a result of being bookworms all their lives. We congratulate IOA from Plett for winning and a team from Glenwood for coming second. We are proud that our Oakhill teams consisting of Joshua Harvey, Nancy Hodgson, Celyn Godfrey and Jonah Pocock came third; while the team of Josh Reynolds, Marcel Cotzee, Emma Steenkamp and Kate Gilmore were fourth.
