Sam to play for SA Men’s Hockey

Old Oak Sam Mvimbi has been called up to represent the SA Men’s Hockey team that will be playing against Namibia in a 3-match series at Randburg. The SA Men’s team will be using the series as warm-up for their upcoming tour to India for the World Series Finals. Sam won’t be attending the World Series but will be earning his first 3 caps for his country in the games against Namibia.

As Oakhill’s sportsperson of the year in both 2016 and 2017 (winning the Ralph Trophy for playing sport at international level and representing South Africa, as well as the Hilbert Trophy as the 1st XI Boys hockey player of the year), Sam was acknowledged as an exceptional sportsman. As a provincial cricketer too, Sam also captained the SWD U19 cricket team playing at the national U19 Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Cricket Week in 2017.

This isn’t Sam’s first appearance in South African hockey colours however, as he had already played for the U18 national team in 2017 when he was in matric at Oakhill. Sam matriculated from Oakhill School in 2017 with a university pass and is currently studying B Admin in public management at the University of Pretoria, where he has played hockey for Tuks since 2018 and his team won the Varsity Cup title in Stellenbosch last year in an exciting final.

The matches will be live-streamed on the SHOOTT South Africa Facebook page –https://www.facebook.com/ShoOTTSA/
