Prep School Waterpolo Tournament to Cape Town

Inter-schools Waterpolo Tournament in Cape Town – 24 – 27 February 2011

The Oakhill U/13 boys’ and girls’ waterpolo teams, called the Hammerheads, travelled by bus to Reddam House, Cape Town, for an Inter-schools Waterpolo Tournament held over the Oakhill mid-term break.

The Oakhill team members were hosted by Reddam families and played matches on Friday and Saturday. The boys were up against the very strong teams of Bishops, SACS, Rondebosch, WPPS and Reddam and unfortunately didn’t win any matches. The girls lost 3 matches against Reddam U/13A, Springfield and Sun Valley but they won 4 matches against Rustenburg, Reddam U/12A, Reddam Select and Groote Schuur! Well done, girls!

On Friday morning, before the tournament, the Hammerheads went on a boat cruise to Seal Island in Hout Bay, which they really enjoyed despite the windy conditions. On Saturday afternoon, after the tournament had ended, the Hammerheads went off again, this time to Muizenberg for surfing lessons and, by all accounts, had a wonderful time. After a very busy, but most enjoyable weekend, the bus departed for Knysna on Sunday morning after the teams had said thank you and goodbye to their host families.

The Hammerheads would like to thank their coach, Mr Stefan Weyers, for organizing the tour and whose boundless enthusiasm and energy prepared the teams well for the tournament. A big thank you must also go to Grant Ferguson for assisting in getting the teams fit and prepared for the tournament. Thank you to Mr Lwando Bantom too, who also accompanied the team to Reddam.

The tour was a great success and Oakhill is very proud of all the players that took part in this tournament. Congratulations Hammerheads!
