Prep Celebration of Excellence 2014

The Foundation Phase (FP) and Intermediate Phase (IP) Celebrations took place on Thursday 27 November and Friday 28 November in the College Quad. An atmosphere of joy and excitement exuded, as the culmination of a year of effort and hard work was acknowledged and celebrated.

FP Celebration of the Joy of Learning

Alexa Frost lead the proceedings for the FP Celebration of the Joy of Learning, where each Grade 1, 2 and 3 student was individually acknowledged for their efforts, strengths and unique qualities. Only one trophy is handed out in this Phase, and this is awarded to the Grade 3 student who showed true endeavour in all that they did during their Grade 3 year.  The 2014 recipient of the True Endeavour Trophy was Kate Tanner.

IP Celebration of Excellence

Herman Hardick welcomed all for the Intermediate Phase Celebration.  Speeches follwed by Headmaster, Shane Kidwell and Deputy Head, James Cross, and then Sports, Cultural and Grade Awards were handed to the students, interspersed with various music and drama items. All students were acknowledged for their strengths and achievements for the year, and outstanding achievers were awarded trophies. The most prestigious award of the IP Celebration, the Oakhill Prep School Achiever of the Year, was awarded to Neve Canny. Other trophy recipients included:

  • Warne Trophy for Excellence in Creative Writing: Emma Gibson
  • Warne Trophy for Story Telling in English: Jason Fogle
  • Award for Commitment to Afrikaans: Hannah Micklewood
  • Award for Upholding the Ethos of the School: Morgan Brymer
  • Elna Brown Good Fellowship Award: Morgan Brymer
  • Hayward Trophy for Outstanding Progress in Grade 6: Isabelle Cowie
  • Allan Graham Trophy for Outstanding Progress in Grade 7: Angelina Faria
  • Entrepreneur of the Year: Famke Beukes
  • Powell Trophy for Environmental Awareness: Hannah Verrier
  • Cultural Award: Morgan Brymer
  • Athlete of the Year – Girls: Neve Canny
  • Athlete of the Year – Boys: Sash Sunkar
  • Swimmer of the Year: Aimee Canny
  • Tennis Player of the Year: Jason Fogle / Tessa Micic
  • Rugby Player of the Year: Ruben Brits
  • Netball Player of the Year: Tazne Strydom
  • Cricket Player of the Year: Ryan Shearer
  • Water Polo Player of the Year – Girls: Hannah Fermor
  • Water Polo Player of the Year – Boys: Trevor Gebhard
  • Hockey Player of the Year – Girls: Neve Canny
  • Hockey Player of the Year – Boys: Trevor Gebhard
  • Soccer Player of the Year: Tavis Duncan
  • Golfer of the Year: Lourens Kok
  • Sportsmanship Award: Trevor Gebhard
