Oakhill makes history in more ways than one!

Oakhill played their first ever Cricket match on the new Oakhill Sports Campus on Saturday 18th January 2014. Having spoken to many staff members, travelling to the ground was quire surreal and an emotional experience. Oakhill has waited for 21 plus years, to have their own Cricket field and the dream has eventually come true.

Marques and Gazebos covered the ground as a country-style atmosphere was set for this historic occasion. The Prep school played an Inter-house Cricket competition with a massive turnout and exuberance that would wear out the most energetic of coaches and only came to a conclusion after 14h00.

The 1st XI playing York for the first time ever in the Super League, lost the toss and bowled first. After having York 65 for 7, they complacently allowed York to reach 146 all out in 41.4 overs. Sam Mvimbi being the pick of the Oakhill bowlers capturing the first wicket ever on the new field, but also ended with 4 wickets. Chris Marrow and James Segers got off to a flier, until James gave his wicket away. Chris looked  in total control until an unbelievable catch saw the end of him for 62. JJ Strydom put up a fight with a hard fought 24, but the latter order of Lawrence Wiid and Liam Botha got Oakhill home with a wicket to spare: Oakhill beating York by one wicket!
