Oakhill Dancers at SA Champs

Oakhill is incredibly proud of our Oakhill Dance Team that competed at the South African Championships of the Performing Arts, in Johannesburg earlier this month. Ten of our dancers were chosen to represent Western Province at regional trials, 8 of whom took part at the National Competition. The dancers selected to participate were Kristina Steward, Hannah Micklewood, Kalcey Polson, Gemma Kilian, Kayleigh Packwood, Erin Young, Lauren Boni and Nicholas Thomson – coached and accompanied by Robyn Humphreys. They competed in various styles and age groups for the Dance and Drama Events of the competition, entering 17 items in total over the 6 days of competition and achieving 17 medals in total.

The Oakhill Dance team received the following results:

  • 7 Bronze Medals – Hannah Micklewood, Erin Young, Lauren Boni and Gemma Kilian
  • 8 Silver Medals – Erin Young, Gemma Kilian, Lauren Boni, Kalcey Polson and Kayleigh Packwood
  • 2 Gold Medals – Gemma Kilian and Nicholas Thomson

Gemma Kilian and Nicholas Thomson were chosen to represent Team South Africa at the World Championships of the Performing Arts, which will take place in July in Los Angeles.

As this was the Oakhill Team’s first competition at National level, and the hundreds of items entered into this competition that they competed against, we are incredibly proud of our dancers and all of their hard work. All of the competition items will be performed (along with new numbers and dancers) at the Oakhill Dance Team Showcase, taking place at Oakhill School on the 19th and 20th of May. Contact Robyn Humphreys (r.humphreys@oakhillschool.co.za) for further information.
