Madiba Day Initiatives – Shoe Drive

“There can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way it treats its children”.

Nelson Mandela

As part of Oakhill’s 2023 Madiba Day Initiative, we will be collecting gently worn unused shoes to donate to the vulnerable children in our community in the hope of giving some small comfort and warmth during this exceptionally cold winter!

The initiative was already launched in the Prep School on International One Day Without Shoes Day. On this day our students were asked to kick off their shoes for a part of the school day. Not only was this a fun exercise, but also a wonderful, humbling opportunity to “put themselves in less fortunate people’s shoes” and experience how thousands of feet walk around cold, uncomfortable and unprotected every day.

We urge you to clean out your cupboards and donate any pre-loved shoes. Any style, colour, and size and any number of pairs are most welcome!

Donations will be distributed via the Knysna Education Trust (KET) and Knysna Initiative for Learning and Teaching (KILT) to children and their families in need.
