Oakhill is proudly local in supporting and enhancing our town. As part of our annual Mandela Day initiatives we are focusing significant efforts on being Pavement Proud in collaboration with Revive Knysna.
To ensure a safer approach to the school, we have cleared the area of overgrown and invasive alien plants in collaboration with our garden service provider, Lagoonview Landscaping, Revive Knysna, Pledge Park as well as our neighbours in the area. Non-indigenous plants have been removed and a plan has been drawn up by Lagoonview Landscaping for the planting of the area including various indigenous plants in the hairpin bend of Kloof and Uitsig Street. Revive Knysna has also been instrumental in assisting us with this project and with the improvement of the approach from Main Road, up Hospital Hill.
With these collaborative citizenship efforts we have created a safer and wider pavement and embankment. We will be planting water wise and low maintenance plants that will naturally enhance the area.
As an EcoSchool Oakhill is committed to “educate and empower young people to make positive decisions and become change makers for an environmentally sustainable world”. Our Grade 8 and 9 students will be actively involved in planting this area as part of their Mandela Day community service on 18 July. The plants and funds for this initiative are from pledges from our community.
