Letter from our Head of Prep – October 2020

Dear Parents, Guardians and Caregivers

Welcome back to the start of Term 4. It was wonderful to see the smiling happy faces of the children as they returned in their Oakhill uniform. I would like to extend a special word of welcome to those children and families that joined or rejoined Oakhill at the start of term and I wish them everything of the best as they experience the Joy of Learning.

We are encouraged by the recent announcements by Minister Angie Motshekga regarding the planned resumption of extramural activities in schools and are eagerly awaiting the gazette listing the directions in this regard. As soon as we have obtained this, we will implement an interim sport programme which will be communicated with parents. Last term we also independently applied for the reopening of certain sporting codes and facilities. As we obtain permission to open up these sporting codes, we will adjust the programme accordingly.

We will be launching a Digital Citizenship week commencing on the 19th of October during which we will be focusing on digital citizenship with children while also engaging with teachers and parents regarding some of the issues that society is dealing with around this topic. Please keep a look out for communication concerning parent forums and additional information related to this subject.

As we continue to adapt to operating under Covid-19 conditions we remain committed to keeping our campus as safe as possible. The commitment of our community to the school protocols has meant that we have been able to continue effectively with our core business and we trust, will also allow us to finish the year strong. Parents and visitors are reminded that they are not permitted on campus unless by appointment and that the wearing of masks remains compulsory.

Wishing you and your family a happy and productive term ahead.

Kindest regards
James Cross
Head of Prep
