As July was a month where people throughout the world tried not to use single use plastic, Oakhill Grade 5 students have learnt about the devastating effects of plastic and especially in our oceans. With this awareness in mind, students wrote letters to local supermarkets, discouraging them from selling too many plastic bags and suggesting their own solutions to the problem. They also made fliers in art class to hand out to customers in the shops, encouraging them to remember to bring their own bags in which to put their shopping. Knysna Super Spar welcomed the students visit even providing cupcakes for them! The Managers were happy to allow the children to approach their customers with their fliers. The students then also walked to Pick ‘n Pay to do the same and their manager and regional managers were also accommodating even committing to send these letters on to head office. Thank you to these local supermarkets for participating in our awareness drive.
