Oakhill is well known for their sports festivals hosted throughout the year, bringing a large contingent of players, their families and supporters to Knysna to enjoy water polo, hockey and cricket. This year alone, the water polo “Chukka” festivals took place over two weekends in February, bringing around 700 players to Knysna. Similarly, in April and May, the 1st team and U13 hockey festivals saw nearly 600 players enjoying the sport for the two weekends combined. Other than exposing visitors to Knysna and all it has to offer, these festivals are significant revenue generators for the hospitality industry with players and their families staying in local B&Bs and eating out in restaurants.
Due to popular demand, Oakhill is now also hosting a festival for U16 hockey players, from Thursday 9 August to Sunday 12 August.
It promises to be a truly festive weekend with eight high schools from the Western and Eastern Cape coming together to enjoy hockey, interwoven with fun and sportsmanship at the Oakhill Sports Campus. Over 250 hockey players and staff will be part of this exciting weekend of hockey. Knysna and hosts Oakhill School welcome players from Bridge House (Franschhoek), Dale College (East London), Glenwood House (George), Merrifield College (East London), Reddam House Constantia (Cape Town), Stellenberg High School (Cape Town), Westerford High School (Cape Town) and Woodridge College (Port Elizabeth).
