Oakhill celebrated World Book Day, which began with the Prep assembly where the audience of children watched a snippet from the upcoming play, “The Enchanted Bookshop” set in a beloved bookstore, celebrating the many fictional characters. Thereafter, the Grade 6S enthusiastically recited the poem “I Opened a Book” by Julia Donaldson.
During the course of the day, our Intermediate Phase (Grade 4-7) children were treated to two very interesting talks by local Knysna authors.
The first by Dr Joan Louwrens, our local doctor, cyclist and extreme adventurer who shared her worldwide adventures and the books she has written. The second speaker by Eve Thompson, an Oakhill parent who wrote a book during lockdown for children, recognising leading African women.
Both talks brought inspiring non-fiction and strong female role models to life and were thoroughly enjoyed by teachers and children.
