67 Minutes for Mandela

This is the essence of Mandela Day – an annual reminder to us all to honour the legacy of Madiba by acting on the idea that each person has the power to change the world. The celebration of Mandela Day aims to serve as a global call to action for people to recognise their individual power to make an imprint and help change the world around them for the better. “By devoting 67 minutes of their time – one minute for every year of Mandela’s public service – people can make a small gesture of solidarity with humanity and a step towards a global movement for good,” says the Nelson Mandela Foundation.

On the 24th and 25th of July, Oakhill endeavoured to make a small difference in the lives of others in Knysna, by giving either needed goods, special written messages or simply our time. Little Oaks gathered a lovely array of items to help the various initiatives that Edge of Africa support, whilst the Prep School collected a generous amount of warm winter clothing and blankets and wrote special messages to the charities they would be donated to. College students gave of their time to bring some fun and smiles to those less fortunate than ourselves ….
